A Proper Multiculturalism

Here is a beautiful example of a proper multiculturalism courtesy of an Orange County Register op-ed piece by Mark Steyn:

From 1842 to 1849, General Sir Charles Napier was the Commander of the British Army in India. The Hindu priests had long observed a custom of burning widows alive on their husband’s funeral pyre. The British had already stopped that custom. When the priests complained to Commander Napier, he replied, “You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: When men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks, and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”
